Dar es Salaam, Tanzania- The Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) is to change status on Thursday, September 5, 2019 when it will become an authority.
This was revealed on Monday by the Director General of TMA who is also the third Vice President of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), Dr. Agnes Kijazi during a workshop for climate scientists in preparation of the release of the October to December seasonal weather forecast on September 3, 2019.
An authority is run as a semi autonomous institution of government and usually passes its own budget. According to the TMA website, they have 66 centres in Tanzania and every district has its centre.
During the function, Dr. Kijazi said she expected a high level of accuracy in the predictions made for the forthcoming rain season.

TMA is the second national met service to become an authority in East Africa following the Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) which attained the status seven years ago.
