Budaka, Uganda – Idudi Rice Farmers Cooperative Society in the eastern Uganda district of Budaka has received farm equipment and inputs that was donated to them by a Chinese organization.

The equipment was handed over to them by the District Chairperson Sam Mulomi.

The equipment was a donation from South to South Cooperation (SSC) a Chinese organization working with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF).

The equipment and inputs comprised of a walking tractor, a rice huller,a mold plough, a water pump,5 litres of engine oil,4 bags of NPK,4 bags of DAP fertilizer,4 bags of Urea and 3 bags of upland rice seeds that were donated by South to South Cooperation (SSC).

The others include seed-planting machines and harvesters.

While addressing members of the cooperative society, Mulomi urged the farmers to maintain the equipment in order for them to reap the best out of it.

“You can only benefit from all these equipment and inputs our friends from China have given you with if you establish an effective strategy of looking after them well,” he advised.

Andrew Mulekwa, the District Commercial Officer encouraged the farmers to save and reinvest so as to grow their society.

Albert Kirya, a member of Idudi Rice Farmers Cooperative said that the donation was going to make it easy for them to manage their farms and also help them cut costs of hiring expensive farm labour during planting, weeding and harvesting periods.

Idudi Rice Farmers Cooperative was started in 2014 and has up to 750 registered members.  The donation was part of the South – South Cooperation Project Phase 2.
