TMA releases forecast for unimodal rainfall season

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has released the forecast for the rainy season November 2019 – April 2020 for areas of Tanzania which receive rainfall once a year.

The forecast was released on Thursday at the TMA headquarters at Ubungo Plaza, Dar es Salaam by the TMA Executive Director and Third Vice President of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), Dr. Agnes Kijazi.

The forecast covers areas which receive unimodal rainfall including Kigoma, Tabora, Rukwa, Katavi, Mbeya, Songwe, Iringa, Lindi, Dodoma, Singida, Mtwara and Southern Morogoro region.

Dr. Kijazi called on the people to make use of the rains and consult experts on the crops to grow.

‘I urge our people in the respective regions to make maximum use of the rainfall which will be enough to carry out farming activities and also consult experts to give them advice on the right kind of crops to plant,” Kijazi said when addressing the press.

She also asked the public to continue following up the weather updates released regularly by TMA in case there are any changes in the forecasts in addition to taking note of short periods of heavy rainfall, strong winds and high waves which are expected to occur in some areas.

According to the forecast, most of the regions of Dodoma, Singida, Tabora, Mbeya, Songwe, Ruvuma, Njombe, Iringa, Southern Morogoro, Lindi and Mtwara are expected to receive moderate to high rainfall.
