Fourth child dies in heavy rain in Kasese

Kasese, Uganda – Another child aged two years has drowned in floods caused by heavy rains in the western Uganda district of Kasese.

According to a statement by the Uganda Red Cross publicist, Irene Nakasiita, the dead child Bwambaale Vica, 2 was  son of Uriah Baluku and Biira Loyce both residents of Kithwa village, Kyabarungira Sub-county in Kasese district.

Bwambale is the fourth child to die in one week in Kasese district due to the heavy rains the country is experiencing right now. On Sunday night three children died after heavy rain in Kasese district.

According to Nakasiita, the boy fell in a trench which was filled with rain water and died after the Wednesday afternoon heavy down pour. The body has been retrieved and handed over to the family.

“More families are still stranded as they suffer the adverse weather effects,” Nakasiita wrote.

The heavy rains have also wreaked havoc in both Kenya and Tanzania with the cities of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam flooding. In the eastern Kenya county of Meru five people died during heavy rain last week.
