Kasese, Uganda – Three children have perished after their house structure collapsed in a landslide following a heavy downpour last night.

According to the Head Of Communication and Public Relations at the Uganda Red Cross Society, Irene Nakasiita, the incident happened in Bulembia division, Kilembe valley, Kasese Municipality in Kasese district.

 The deceased have been identified as: Baluku Derrick 2 years and Masereka John and Muhindo Weasly both 9 all from one family. Their parents are Masereka Modesto 40yrs and Biira Stella.

This brings the total of children who have died from rainfall to seven in Kasese district after another four drowned in floods caused by heavy rain on October 13th, 2019.

Last month the Uganda government through the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness issued an alert warning that floods and landslides will be experienced in several parts of the country due to the ongoing heavy rains.

The Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) last week also issued a heavy rainfall alert warning of floods, mudslides and lightning strikes.
