Kigali, Rwanda – Rwanda Meteorological Agency on Wednesday issued a warning over heavy rains beginning Thursday through Saturday.
A weather forecast released by the agency said the heavy rains with precipitations ranging between 20mm-60mm were expected in several parts across the country affecting mainly Rubavu, Nyabihu, two districts in North Western Rwanda.
The forecast indicated that houses in some parts of the regions could be submerged by flash floods, adding that infrastructure could also be damaged.
Environmental experts blame the El Niño climate phenomenon for the extreme weather in Rwanda and the entire Greater Horn of Africa sub-region.
