Bududa, Uganda – Four dead bodies have so for been recovered and 40 people are missing ollowing the recent landslides which hit two districts in Bugisu sub region, 41 bodies are still missing.
According to the Mbale region manager of Uganda Red Cross, Vincent Odochi said that since the since the day of the disaster, the Red cross team with the help of locals have tried to use hand hoes to exhume dead bodies at Zesui sub county in Sironko district and at Bushika sub county in Bududa district where the landslides occurred.
“We have recovered only four bodies in Bududa and in Sironko but 40 people are still missing,” Odoch told the media at his office on Wednesday.
He also says that they would have recovered most of the bodies but they are limited with use of hand hoes for digging.
Wilson Watira the LCV chairperson of Bududa district expressed his bitterness with the Ministry of Disaster Peparedness for none response since Tuesday when the disaster struck.
Watira adds that they have told all people living in disaster risk areas to vacate and get refuge in the nearby churches, schools and neighbours as they wait government response.
Samson Natsami the deputy CAO of Bududa district urged government to support them with relief items like tents, blankets , food among others such that they can help the affected people.
