Kigali-Rwanda: Rwanda Meteorological Agency (RMA) has warned a reduction of rainfall in the next 10 days of month of May 2021.

According to RMA rainy days are expected to vary between two (2) and three (3) days across Rwanda.

In the ten (10) days forecast that runs from 21 – 31, the weatherman warned end of seasonal rainfall in most parts of Eastern province, Central region and Southern province in the districts of Gisagara, Nyanza, Ruhango and Kamonyi.

The expected rainfall will result from the location of Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) which is migrating towards North of Equator

In its ten-day forecast between May 21and 31, the agency released the distribution of the rainfall across the country is highlighted below:

Eastern Province: Rainfall ranging less than 10 mm is expected in Kirehe, Ngoma and Bugesera districtsand southern parts of Kayonza district. Rainfall ranging between 10 and 20 mm is expected in most parts of Rwamagana, Gatsibo, Nyagatare, northern parts of Kayonza districts and extreme southern part of Kirehe district. 20 to 30 mm of rainfall are expected in a small part of the north-western parts of Nyagatare district.

City of Kigali: Rainfall ranging between 10 and 20 mm is expected in most parts of Gasabo, Kicukiroand Nyarugenge. Rainfall ranging between 20 and 30 mm is expected in small part of northern Gasabo. Rainfall less than 10mm is expected in extreme small part of southern Nyarugenge district.

Southern Province: Rainfall ranging between 10 and 20 mm is expected in most parts of Gisagara,Nyanza, Ruhango and Kamonyi districts, south eastern parts of Muhanga, north eastern parts of Huye and eastern parts of Nyaruguru. Rainfall ranging between 20 and 30 mm is expected in most parts of Huye, western parts of Nyanza and Ruhango districts, eastern parts of Nyaruguru and Nyamagabe, north western parts of Kamonyi and central parts of Muhanga districts. Rainfall ranging between 30 and 40 mm is expected in central part of Nyaruguru and north central parts of Nyamagabe. Rainfall ranging between 40 and 50 mm is expected in western parts of Nyamabage and Nyaruguru located in Nyungwe National Park.

Western Province: Rainfall ranging between 30 and 40 mm is expected in most parts of Karongi, westernparts of Ngororero, Northern parts of Nyamasheke, western part of Rusizi, eastern parts of Nyabihu and southern parts of Rutsiro districts. Rainfall ranging between 40 and 50 mm is expected in south eastern parts of Nyamasheke and central parts of Rusizi, most parts of Ngororero and Nyabihu districts, western parts of Rutsiro and central parts of Rubavu districts. 50-60 mm is expected in northern parts of Rutsiro, north western parts of Ngororero, small parts of eastern Nyabihu, northern parts of Rubavu and eastern part of Rusizi district located in Nyungwe National Park.

Northern Province: Rainfall ranging between 10 and 20 mm is expected in southern part of Gicumbi.Rainfall ranging between 20 and 30mm is expected in northern Gicumbi, southern parts of Rulindo and extreme southern part of Gakenke. Rainfall ranging between 30 and 40 mm is expected in western parts of Gakenke, northern parts of Rulindo and Gicumbi. Rainfall ranging between 40 and 50 mm is expected in southern part of Musanze and Burera districts. Rainfall ranging between 50 and 60 mm is expected in northern Burera and Musanze districts.

Wind forecast

According to RMA during the last ten days of May 2021, moderate winds ranging between 4m/s and 7m/s is expected in few parts of the country while light wind less than 4m/s is expected in many parts of the country.

As per the distribution map below, moderate wind is expected in many parts of Western Province and some parts located in north eastern of Eastern Province. Light wind is expected in remaining parts of the country.
