The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) last week released a severe weather warning stretching to Tuesday this week after several parts of the country were battered by heavy rains.
According to the map accompanying the advisory, most of the areas affected are in southern and eastern Tanzania including the commercial city Dar es Salaam. Other areas include; Mbeya, Iringa, Njombe, Ruvuma,Mtwara, Morogoro,Pwani, Tanga, and the islands of Pemba and Unguja.
“Advisory of strong wind reaching 40km/hr and large ocean waves reaching 2.0 m is issued for the entire coast of the Indian Ocean (Lindi, Mtwara, Pwani (including Mafia isles), Dar es Salaam and Tanga regions together with Unguja and Pemba isles),” reads the TMA advisory for Tuesday this week.
Meanwhile, at the neighbor Kenya the weather monitoring body, the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has been forecasting dry weather conditions for most of the country since last week with few rains in a few areas.
In Uganda after the Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) last week warned farmers not to be tempted to plant because of the off season rains the country was experiencing, dry weather conditions have resumed for most parts of the country.A
